The Regina Five Years 1958-1968

AN EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS BY CANADIAN ARTIST .TED GODWIN,. OC, LLD, RCA

Scheduled for opening Fall 2008 Ted Godwin – The Regina Five years 1958 – 1968

A major exhibition of Godwin’s work showing the progression of imagery culminating in the National Gallery exhibition Five Painters from Regina in 1961, the stylistic changes after, and the work immediately preceding the Tartan Years 1967 – 1976.

Complementing the exhibition will be a double volume. One reproducing works from the show with an accompanying text written by Dr. Ann Davis Director of The Nickle Arts Museum setting Godwin’s work in historical context, and relationship to art activities in the rest of the World.

The companion volume is the Godwin Memoirs. A fascinating personal account of the turbulent times the artist’s career has spanned. The books will be sold separately, and together as a boxed set.

A native of Calgary, Godwin rose to national prominence with the 1961 National Gallery of Canada exhibition ... Five painters from Regina. Joining the Faculty of Art at the University of Regina in1964 Godwin has maintained an active professional career exhibiting regularly with regional and national venues, and a variety of commercial Galleries over the years.

Elected to the Royal Canadian Academy in 1974, and granted Professor Emeritus in 2001. In the same year Godwin was also given the Award of Excellence by Alberta College of Art, and granted an honorary degree from the University of Regina. His book "STUDIO HANDBOOK FOR ARTISTS" won the 1999 Saskatchewan book award for publishing in education. In 2004 Godwin was invested as an Officer of the Order of Canada. As a matter of interest Godwin was also able to attend a traditional Indian Sun Dance in the same year.
